Flame cutting

Flame cutting of a metal is an economical and quick way of splitting material. It is widely used for cutting thick sheets (plates), or other thick metal materials. Flame cutting is mainly connected to the oxyacetylene cutting of metal material.

Principle of flame cutting

A basis for flame cutting is heating up the metal to the temperature of burning and its subsequent burning in an oxygen flow. The heat is released by burning and preheats another place for a cut. We use an oxygen-acetylene flame for heating up the metal. Cuts are narrow and the cutting surface is smooth.

How do we cut material by flame?

Plain carbon steel and low-alloy steel can be cut by a flame, where their usage mainly depends on their chemical composition, above all on their carbon content. A big advantage is the possibility to cut very thick materials.
